Our take
ZeroWater's claim to fame is the included TDS (total dissolved solids) meter — when it reads 6 ppm or higher, you swap the filter. The five-stage filter is more aggressive than typical pitchers and the company publishes NSF/ANSI P473 protocol testing for PFOA and PFOS reduction. Trade-off: filter life is short (15-25 gallons depending on local water hardness) and the filtered water can taste flat because dissolved minerals are removed.
Pros
- TDS meter takes the guesswork out of replacement
- Tested for PFOA + PFOS reduction
- Five-stage filtration vs 2-3 in standard pitchers
Cons
- Short filter life with hard water
- Filtered water can taste flat (mineral removal)
- Cartridges are not cheap
